about

"This State is Mine" is really a California exploration song. It's sort of my slogan whenever I'm driving up 120 in yosemite, the redwoods of Del Norte, the deserts of Needles and Blythe, and aboard the Pacific Surfliner where these words were written. It's also about finally coming home.

lyrics

Awaken to the sound of wind
Recall that this is just where ive been
Remind myself of coming days on the run

Steel fades into the sand
Where it cannot breathe and it cannot stand
I have reached another point in a journey

Just another along the way
Listen close you’ll hear me say

This state is mine
and everything inside
There are a thousand stops
Where I can hide
And I’ve scaled peaks
and I’ll traverse the dunes
Every single road
Can always lead me to you

Kiss me goodbye love just for tonight
I’ve got the border in my sight
Stringing lights along the way I’ll run

Photographs and videos
But where I’ve been nobody will know
Until they breathe the air of zephyr winds

Top to bottom there’s something new
In every corner even for you

This state is mine
and everything inside
I’ve come to know
I cannot hide
From the snowfall nor from the pine
This state is mine
No miracle divine
Just a hunger longs for a world sublime

And if you ever taste the rain it’s so damn sweet
Share a story with each passenger you meet
And know the darkened waves outside somewhere
Would Still crash onshore if you didn’t care
So spend your life running on your feet

Perhaps someday I will find my way back home
my heart whispers for Sebastopol
Curled in your arms with the rain outside
you know that there's a place to hide
Looking back at you

about

Leland Bailey San Luis Obispo, California

It all started in June 2012. Me, a beer, and a piano. I cranked out music to lyrics I hadn't touched in years. By the end of the week, I had finished my very first song. Of course, the story begins long before that.
